What is the difference between a hard bounce and a soft bounce?

A hard bounce is a permanent delivery failure — the email address does not exist or is invalid. A soft bounce is a temporary failure — the mailbox is full, the server is down, or the message is too large. Hard bounces should be removed immediately; soft bounces can be retried.

How does MX lookup work?

An MX (Mail Exchange) lookup queries DNS to find which mail servers handle email for a domain. If a domain has no MX records, it cannot receive email. Bextrad checks MX records as part of every verification to confirm the domain is configured to accept mail.
