A hard bounce is a permanent delivery failure — the email address does not exist, is invalid, or the domain does not accept mail. A soft bounce is a temporary failure — the mailbox is full, the server is temporarily down, or the message is too large. Hard bounces should be removed from your list immediately. Soft bounces can be retried later.

An MX (Mail Exchange) lookup queries the DNS to find which mail servers are responsible for receiving email on behalf of a domain. If a domain has no MX records, it cannot receive email at all.
